Bodegas Salentein and Callia join Off-Piste
We’re delighted to announce that from March 2021 we will be representing renowned Argentinian wineries Bodegas Salentein and Bodegas Callia in the UK off-trade.
One of Mendoza’s pioneering wineries, Bodegas Salentein was founded in 1996 by Dutch entrepreneur Mijndert Pon, who saw the unique potential of this arid, high-altitude landscape for the production of world-class wines. The Salentein estate now covers 2000 hectares in the centre of the Uco Valley, of which 800 hectares under vine, and also includes the gravity-fed winery, a centre for contemporary art and a hotel. In 2003 Pon set his sights on the more northerly region of San Juan, establishing Bodegas Callia in the Tulum Valley.
The winemaking team is directed by leading winemaker José Galante, who joined Salentein in 2010 following a long career with Bodega Catena Zapata. Born and raised in the province of Mendoza, Galante is regarded as a leading winemaking figure in both Argentina and across the world and is widely acknowledged as having help shape the Argentinian wine industry as it is today.
