Located in Mendoza’s famed Uco Valley, Bodegas Salentein produces a remarkable collection of wines from vineyards planted in some of the highest elevations on the planet. Today, Salentein is the largest estate in the Uco Valley. The property is comprised of four ‘fincas’, Spanish for estates: El Oasis, La Pampa, San Pablo & El Tomillo.
The Uco Valley’s high elevations ranging from 1,050 to 1,700 meters above sea level and different stony alluvial soils create the perfect growing conditions for world-class wines. For twenty years, Salentein has led the way in the study and development of the Uco Valley’s micro terroirs implementing sustainable practices that ensure continuity of quality winemaking. Chief winemaker José ‘Pepe’ Galante has completed more than 40 vintages in Mendoza, initially at Catena Zapata Group, before moving to Salentein in 2010.
The Salentein Family of Wines includes the wineries of Portillo in Mendoza and Bodegas Callia in San Juan, along with brands including Killka and Contracara. Contracara Malbec, from the high altitude Perdernal Valley in San Juan scooped a Platinum medal at the 2022 Decanter World Wine Awards, with Silver medals for the Malbec and Red Blend at the 2022 IWC.
